LEADERSHIP COMMITMENT

A SYNOPSIS OF THE BELIEFS OF THE P.C.A.

JOB DESCRIPTION: FIRE TEAM MEMBER

JOB DESCRIPTION: FIRE TEAM LEADER

JOB DESCRIPTION: MINISTRY LEADER

STUDENT MINISTRY PURPOSE AND STRUCTURE

 CAMPUS NITE PURPOSE AND SCHEDULE

WHAT IS FIRE TEAM LEADERSHIP?

A fire team is the smallest organized unit of an army that typically consists of 4 people. Three of the four people on the fire team are soldiers who perform different duties and the fourth is the team leader. Fire teams normally operate in pairs and are coordinated by a squad leader.

These smaller units were developed because of the difficulty to maneuver and communicate with a larger military force that tended to result in stalemate situations. The fire teams were created to be flexible, creative, and with the ability of quicker and deeper penetration.

Why is the Student Ministry adopting a fire team model?

The goal of the Student Ministry is to disciple students to move into personal and corporate ministry. As students are grounded in the gospel of Christ they desire to serve rather than be served, and as a result they seek out leadership. The typical student ministry has a group of volunteers, the leadership team, who plan and lead Campus Nite. However, a problem arises when large numbers of volunteers, both adults and students, are called to serve rather than be served. A typical leadership team only has so many delegated responsibilities, therefore limiting the number of people who can serve meaningfully.

As with our Student Ministry, we did not have roles for all the leaders we had on the team. As a result, the role of the leaders became very ambiguous, they had less hands-on in planning and leading, we had to limit the size of our leadership, and unfortunately we had to turn away potential leaders fro the very thing we were disciplining them towards.

In order to include all the people God was raising up to serve Him in the Student Ministry we developed the fire team leadership model. The leaders will be divided into fire team with the adults and upperclassmen serving as team leaders over the younger leaders. Each ministry will have two fire teams that alternate weekly between running the Campus Nite program and building personal relationships. The team leaders will guide their fire team in planning the program on their week and leading them in carrying out their plans.

CHARACTERISTICS WE LOOK FOR IN LEADERS

It is our philosophy to equip the body for a life of ministry. As part of our Student Ministry discipleship, we want to provide an avenue for adults and students who have a desire to impact the hearts of others in a structured ministry setting. Participation on the leadership team is an advanced discipleship that causes rapid and deep growth in the lives of the leaders as they apply their faith to life.

It is our desire to train people to be leaders in the ministry of Jesus Christ, not only here at Wellington Presbyterian and its Student Ministry, but for any work in Christ’s kingdom anywhere in the world. The student leaders will be receiving regular training in the areas of leadership, ministry philosophy and structure, building discipleship relationships, and how to impact the hearts of people through ministry programs and relationships.

The Student Ministry is looking for adults and students who:

  •  Are willing to be challenged at deep personal and spiritual levels

  •  Are moldable by the training provided by the Pastor of Student Families

  •  Recognize their sin and total dependence upon Jesus for faith and life

  •  Willing to be held accountable as leaders of ministry by the members of the leadership team

  •  Willing to work and grow as a team by sharing their labor, joy, pain, weaknesses, and fears

FIRE TEAM LEADERS MUST BE F.A.T.

FAITHFUL
The leaders we seek have given their lives over to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Their relationship with Jesus should be growing and noticeable in their lives. This would include obvious acts of love toward others, patience, kindness, thankfulness, and a servant's heart, all being done through faith.

 AVAILABLE
The leaders we seek are available to the ministry. Each leader needs to be sure that his or her lifestyle can handle the added responsibilities required of a leader. Availability is very important to a leader’s effectiveness and ability to develop meaningful relationships that move people towards Christ.

TEACHABLE
The leaders we seek must be teachable in that they desire to change, learn, and grow. Being teachable has three aspects. First, they must be teachable in his or her personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the ministry in which He has called them. The Holy Spirit is continually teaching and stretching His followers so that they have a deeper and fuller understanding of Christ and His work in their lives. Our team is committed to being developed further as believers & ministry leaders for the glory of God and furthering of His kingdom.

Second, teachable leaders willingly & gladly place themselves under the authority of the church leaders. A part of being teachable to the church’s authority is by being a member or in pursuit of membership. By being a member you are under the authority, guidance and shepherding of the Session. Being an active member in the body of Christ is important as a role model to the students, since membership is our goal for the students.

Thirdly, you must ask yourself if you are able to work under the authority and direction of the Pastor of Student Families. You will need to be able to trust and carry out his decisions and instructions.

LEADERSHIP COMMITMENT

Commitment
The Student Ministry considers this commitment to be very serious. In fact, we regard it as a chief commitment over all the other activities in life because it pertains the call of every believer by Christ and his plan to redeem sinners. The commitment to the leadership team should reflect the commitment one makes to extra curricular activities such as drama, music, or sports teams. Those who commit will benefit proportionately to what they put into it.

One-year commitment

 Commitment #2
Attend the Campus Nite weekly, arriving 30 minutes prior to the meeting to setup, coordinate duties, and pray

 Commitment #3

 Commitment #5

A Synopsis of the Beliefs of the
Presbyterian Church in America

  1. The Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice.

  2. There is one God, eternal and self-existing in three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) who are to be equally loved, honored, and adored.

  3.  All mankind participated in Adam’s fall from his original sinless state, and is thus lost in sin and totally helpless.

  4. The Sovereign God, for no other reason than His own unfathomable love and mercy, has chosen lost sinners from every nation to be redeemed by the quickening power of the Holy Spirit, and through the atoning death and resurrection of His son, Jesus Christ.

  5. Those sinners whom the Spirit quickens, come to believe in Christ as Savior by the Word of God, are born again, become sons      of God, and will persevere to the end.

  6. Justification is by faith, and through it the undeserving sinner is clothed with the righteousness of Christ.

  7. The goal of God’s salvation in the life of the Christian is holiness, good works, and service for the glory of God.

  8. At death, the Christian’s soul passes immediately into the presence of God and the unbeliever’s soul is eternally separate from God unto condemnation.

  9. Baptism is a sign of God’s covenant, and is properly administered to children of believers in their infancy as well as to those who come as adults to trust in Christ.

  10. Jesus Christ will return to earth, visibly and bodily, at a time when He is not expected, to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.

  11. The Gospel of God’s salvation in Jesus Christ must be published to all the world as a witness before Jesus Christ returns.

STUDENT MINISTRY PURPOSE AND STRUCTURE

Student Ministry Purpose

Wellington Presbyterian Church is deeply interested in seeing Jesus have a profound impact in the lives of middle and high school age students during these critical years. It is the purpose of our Student Ministry to serve Christ by equipping parents and volunteers to move into the lives of student families through personal relationships and intentional discipleship to build up Christ’s body in spiritual maturity and through the addition of new believers.

Student Ministry Discipleship Structure

Our purpose is accomplished through a five-level structure with each level contributing a different yet complementary element in order to holistically disciple students to be servants of Jesus and fully functioning church members. The fifth level of leadership is where students move from being served to serving others. At this level, the students then move into the other four levels as servant leaders to help others progress towards maturity and ministry.

The Discipleship Process

 CAMPUS NITE PURPOSE AND SCHEDULE

The Campus Nites are designed to serve a dual focus. First, the meetings provide a fun and welcoming atmosphere for WPC students to invite their unbelieving friends. It is here they will encounter the life-changing power of the gospel in word and deed as they connect with the people of God and hear the gospel proclaimed. The second focus of our meetings is to help students initiate new relationship and deepen existing ones. Both focuses are accomplished through music, games, mixers, refreshments, worship, and the preaching of the gospel.
